The whole idea behind the series, ’ What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System-the ABCs That Can Save Your Life’, is threefold. Firstly, for you to really become intimately aware of  your immune system. Secondly, to understand the crucial role played by Glutathione levels for the maximum performance of your immune system, Thirdly, to become acquainted with diseases that could be connected to a shortage of Glutathione in your body. I say become acquainted with not to fixate on the diseases but rather to be able to spot them in yourself or others so they can be dealt with sooner than later.

 

More and more media emphasis will be put on this overlooked defence system of your body. The public has just begun to see the tip of the iceberg in this area, although plenty of research has already been done. I mentioned in ‘What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System?’( the introduction) that during the course of my lifetime I had heard of the immune system. However, I was formally introduced to its potential by business acquaintances.

 

Ultimately, you are responsible to keep this powerful internal ally of yours in top shape. The rewards of caring for your immune system are  boundless! I use the term ‘you’ because this material is designed for your benefit. As I take for granted that you are a generous person, then you are also not just looking out for yourself. You genuinely care about others! These very brief descriptions that follow are far from being exhaustive. However, they can hopefully be a starting point to spot disorders in others in order to sound the alarm for them to seek the help of a qualified physicians. It’s a win win proposal. ”What Can I Take To Boost Mmy Immune System?”  That question presupposes that some event in your life pointing to the past, present or future is causing you to think about the wellness of your immune system. Perhaps you’ve recently read an article. Maybe you’re looking around and seeing the increasing number of people whose health is declining by  the day. Could it be that you’ve just come back from the bedside of a dear friend or a loved one whose immune system won’t defend her anymore. Maybe you’ve just sat down this very moment. You’ve come home having attended your best friend’s funeral. You are emotionally exhausted and deep in thought. Or… and I hope this is not the case, you find that you are also in an endagered state of health. Soooo, for the first time in your life, you stop to ask youself the question you have never thought of asking yourself. ”What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System?” You never thought of asking yourself this because… you didn’t know about it, didn’t know it could be asked, didn’t care about it, never thought the time would come, thought it would take care of itself, expected your physician or some other caretaker to provide the answer or… simply knew it was important but decided to put it off and refused to be responsible. Now you know the time is right and right at this moment.

I know because I never bothered asking myself the question. By now, you know the question is ”What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System?” I never thought of asking myself that question until about two years ago. On top of that, I can not claim the credit for doing so.

As a corporate consultant and public speaker, I find myself in the company of very interesting people from different walks of life. It was in such a setting that Gérald and Guylaine began to sensitize me to the importance that my immune system plays in living a full life. However, at that time I couldn’t savour just how important it was. Why? Because I did not possess the specific vocabulary that  would allow me to mine the wealth to be gained from really grasping what kind of marvel my immune system is. To those of you who are musicians, painters, technical writers, marketers etc., you know the frustration you can experience when vocabulary inhibits the full expression of what you would like to learn or what you would like to express. 

For this reason, I thought I would put together for you a 26 part series of posts on the vocabulary of the immune system. By the way,  my wife just asked the question, ”Why a 26 part series?”  Good question!  Because we will be looking at the A, B, Cs of the immune system. This post serves as the introduction setting the stage for the series.

It’s never too late to ask yoursef the question, ”What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System?”  Take this as your  opportunity to mine the gains you can make by reading  all 26 posts. Why read all 26 posts?  You have certainly heard that practice make perfect. That being true, practice also makes permanent!  Would you agree that when it’s a matter of life, permanent good habits are required? This is a gift you are offering yourself as well as to all those with whom you will come into contact.  Pass it forward… as it was passed on to me.

There are no cure-all solutions. There are, however,  cultivated lifestyle habits that work together to create a powerful immune system system to shield you from the onslaught of  every day pathogens.

What Can I Take To Boost My Immune System? Upkeeping Your Levels Of Glutathione!

If glutathione is manufactured within the body, what can we do to maintain or increase GSH levels? Eating glutathione cannot. There are many ideas about how to raise GSH levels in the body but only a few actually work and some of them have side effescts.

GSH is a tripeptide-a protein made up of 3 amino acids. The chemical structure of glutathione does not easily survive the digestive process, so eating it will not raise the GSH levels. The body manufactures it within the cell from building blocks (precursors) of GSH in our food. These precursors are glycine, glutamate and cysteine. Glycine and glutamate are readily available in North American diets, but cysteine -containing proteins are much harder to come by. Cysteine as an isolated amino acid has trouble getting from your mouth to your cells. Much of it is broken down or altered in the digestive tract and bloodstream. So we must take cysteine in a form that resists breakdown.

The building blocks (precursors) glutamate, cysteine and glycine from any source must be in a form that can be transported from the mouth, through te digestive system, into the blood and finally through the cell wall. Once there, the cell combines them into GSH.

Glutathione carries out many crucial functions in your body, of which, 3 stand out. Let’s unpack these functions in a few words.

Keep in mind the 3 letters A-I-D.

‘A’ stands for ANTIOXIDANT. In fact glutathione is your body’s master antioxidant. It is named so because, it works synergistically with other antioxidants such as vitamin C, E and selenium to get rid of pathogens that compromise your immune system. None of these important but lesser antioxidants occur naturally in the cell-only glutathione. All others are obtained from the food we eat. GSH is a vital, natural component of your cells - an endogenous antioxidant. If you want to boost your body’s defenses against oxidation, your best bet is to give it the raw materials it needs to produce glutathione. GSH is at the heart of cellular oxidation. It works in conjunction with the secondary (exogenous) antioxidants peroxide, lipoic acid, vtaminC and vitamin E, relieving them of destructive charged ions and enabling them to return to battle.

Now for the lettre ‘I’. I stands for Immune System. The twofold outcome of glutathione is preventive and therapeutic. As a preventative glutathione does not allow pathogens to take root in the cells. As a therapeutic agent, glutathione bolsters your immune system so that the pathogens have to deal with a strengthened immune system. This is because elevated glutathione levels enable the body to produce more white blood cells. These constitute the most important division of the immune system’s ground troops.

The last letter is ‘D’ which stands for detoxifier. We inhale and ingest natural and synthetic toxins every day of our lives and can’t possibly avoid them. Humans have been on this planet for a long time. Our ancestors have lived through times far more physically challenging than ours with far less protection than we have today. They obviously survived because we are here now. But how did they make it?

There must have been what we call scientists who had what they prized as the latest technology in health care for their times. However, communications were not as frequent, as rapid and as complete as they are today. So, how did they survive?

Many varied micro aggressors  mercilessly attacked countless people  throughout different civilizations. Are some of those ancient  micro warriors still around today?  Do those who have been put to rest cheer from the stands as new hot shots step onto the battlefield thirsting for a piece of your Immune Sytem like Hannibal Lecter. Sound a little over dramatic? Ask anyone who has been in a prolonged battle due to a severly compromised Immune System and that person will tell you that this is very understated!

It’s kind of comforting to imagine a past when each person, each family, each village had its very own time-tested wellness habits.

What is  good sense? Seems like a no brainer, right? You’ve heard that expression so many times that it’s obvoius. It falls in the same family as expressions like, ”that’s cool”, ”wow buff”, ”peace and love”, ”trendy” and  ”yeah whatever”, just to name a few. These expressions are like hooks on which you  quickly hang your comprehension trusting everything will take care of itself. After all, how wrong can you go with nifty ”that’s cool”?

But what happens when a commonly used expression needs to be validated in order to get the precise results you want? Are you able to stop and isolate exactly what has to happen next?

WHAT CAN I TAKE TO BOOST MY IMMUNE SYSTEM? Good Sense… 

In this case, I propose one of the key ingredients to take/apply is …good sense. But what could that possibly mean? Let’s have a look at the following 7 words.

RESPECT- Respect has a lot to do with good sense. A person who has good sense respects himself. He realises that he has one life, free will and potential. And, for the purposes of this discussion, an Immune System that needs to be in fighting shape.  Yes, fighting shape because the Immune System is the major defense system of the body. He respects himself as a whole but also this awsome part of himself that is responsible for his very life!

REFLECT- She will reflect to take inventory of whatever comes to mind as being a threat to her Wellness.

RESTRAINT- He will exercise restraint on habits to which he is becoming addicted and some of which are compromising his Immune System.It could be drugs, alcohol, pollution, chemicals. The list goes on some which are very evident. Others are sneaky in nature.

REFRAME-  She will reframe the potential gains and losses from her restraint and reassess her position for Wellness by way of a  strong Immune System.

RESHAPE- He will reshape his daily habits to and redirect his energies to accomplish his goals for a full life uninterrupted by frustating and sometimes crippling setbacks.

These are 7 ingredients among many others that can allow you to get the performance you expect from your Immune System.

PERSONAL WELLLNESS BY WAY OF A STRONG IMMUNE SYSTEM

Smoky mirrors, slight of hand, faked out … all expressions that mean that somehow something YOU should have seen has managed to slip by unobserved. I guess that’s alright for matters that have very little impact on YOUR life. However, what happens when it impacts YOUR quality of life?

Certain things are ALL ABOUT YOU … and rightly so. This is one of those certain things.

One of the longest, most persistent, vicious, merciless battles being fought right now is the battle for YOUR Immune System. Once YOUR Immune System goes down ,YOU go down!

A weakened Immune System can’t supply YOU with the ENERGY and  WELLNESS required  to do what you WANT to do. People  have mentioned that when their Immune System is weakened, they have less of a DESIRE to participate in life.
